This book broke my heart.
Celaena has arrived in Wendlyn to dispatch the royal family, but the death of her closest friend breaks her. Barely surviving in a drunken stupor, she is found and brought to the one person her mother so desperately tried to hide her from. To get answers, she needs to return to Erilea. Celaena must face her past and claim her future.
I say this about everything that Sarah J. Maas writes: the character development is outstanding. The internal struggles that Celaena faces are brought to life in a genuine understandable way. The introduction of Rowan as a character seems to be precisely what Celaena needs to get out of her depression. I love the way her past fuels her present.
The rebellion grows in a direction I didn’t expect at all, and I think it’s incredible how well things begin to come together. The introduction of Manon Blackbeak was exciting as I’ve wanted to learn more about the witches.
This book does a great job of answering the questions we were left with in the last one. I give it five out of five stars.
